Obituary of Benjamin Franklin Crump

Obituary Franklin was born on September 9, 1942, in Cumberland, Virginia to Frank Lee Crump and Mary Jane Carter Crump. At a young age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, a commitment that shaped his life and guided his actions. Franklin was lovingly raised by three of the Garnett sisters, who played a vital role in supporting his educational aspirations. With their encouragement, he earned a general diploma from L.P. Jackson High School in Cumberland, Virginia. Franklin then pursued his passion for culinary arts by traveling to Portland, Maine, where he graduated from the School of Culinary Arts. To put his education to good use, Franklin relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where he dedicated 38 years of service at Sparrow's Point Shipyard Steel Mill, fulfilling his career and life. He was a man of unwavering faith, integrity, and kindness, whose life was a testament to the values of hard work. Franklin had a profound passion for sports and was a devoted fan of several professional teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees. His enthusiasm also extended to college basketball, where he cheered passionately for the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia. This shared love for sports was a special bond between Franklin and his son, connecting them in a way that words could never capture. In addition to his love of sports, Franklin was a gifted cook who brought joy to family and friends through his culinary creations. His apple pie and potato salad were among his favorite dishes to prepare. Franklin had a fondness for cars, and his favorite was his Buick. He took great pride in keeping it spotless, a reflection of his meticulous nature and love for the things he cherished. Franklin passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on December 18, 2024, at the age of 82 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Jane, three additional bonus sons, Clifton, Michael and Patrick. He was previously married to Madeline Kane Crump and Odessa Gatling Crump, with whom he shared cherished years and built lasting family bonds. Their mutual care and memories remain part of his legacy. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving son, Franklin Rodney Crump, affectionately called 'Rod' by his father. Born from Franklin's first marriage to Madeline, Rod exemplified unwavering care and support throughout his father's life. As a dedicated caregiver, Rod provided consistent and loving attention to his father until God called him home. A special person he loved as his own daughter, Christina Feldman, brought immense joy and warmth to his life. Franklin was also a proud grandfather to Vanessa Crump-Cottrell (Marques) and a doting great-grandfather to Christina Lawton and Alana Cottrell, as well as two step-great-grandchildren, Isis Cottrell and Londyn Cottrell. Three beautiful sisters, Shirley Langhorne, Catherine Langhorn, and Marie Fleming; one brother, Larry Crump (Caroline); two loving aunts, Parena Crump and Elsie Brown; and three uncles, Lynwood Crump, John Lewis, and Robert Lee Carter. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, among whom his favorite niece, Lisa Fleming, held a special place in his heart for the love, joy, and connection they shared. In addition, his closest friends Judge Bobby Woodson, Thomas Crump, and Wilbur Johnson stood out, sharing countless moments of laughter and support. We are comforted in knowing that Franklin has found peace, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. Rest in peace, Franklin. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
