Lloyd Linwood James, Sr., was born August 7, 1947, to Smith Roger James and Henrietta Yokley James in Cumberland, Virginia. At an early age Lloyd joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Cartersville, Virginia. He was educated at Turkey Cart and Pine Grove Elementary Schools. He attended Luther Porter Jackson High School, graduating in 1966. After graduation and leaving his hometown, Lloyd moved to New York City and started working with his hometown friend at a popular boutique shop. He then applied at the US Postal Service in New York and worked his way up until he retired. While living in New York for a few years, Lloyd joined The Sons of King David Masonic Lodge and received his 32nd Mason Degree. He was also. Worshipful Grandmaster, where he served in this role his entire stay in New York. In his spare time, he took karate classes and earned his black belt in karate. After retiring from the post office in New York, he moved to his hometown of Cumberland, Virginia. Lloyd loved the country life, spending time fishing and gardening with his two brothers and a close cousin. He also served on the board of the Pine Grove Project. In October of 2023, Lloyd underwent surgery for a rapidly spreading brain tumor and his health started declining. On May 23. 2024, Lloyd gained his wings and went from labor to reward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith, Roger James and Henrietta Yokley James, one brother, Harry L James, his oldest sister, Hester Lindsey a nephew, Nelson (Buck) James, two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Joyce James. He leaves cherished memories to his three children; Marvin York James of Atlanta, Georgia, Lloyd Lynnwood James, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, and Bianca Moore of Philadelphia, PA, thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two brothers; Deacon Curtis. W. James, Sr. (Drucilla) of Cumberland, Virginia, Deacon Eugene W. James, Sr., of N. Chesterfield, Virginia., one sister; Doloris Hunter (Raymond) of Richmond, Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, several devoted; niece, Elder Etta Crook., nephew, Ricky James, cousins; Raymond Scott and, Roosevelt James, close friends; Greg Morris, Muriel Miller-Branch, and Bruce Tate. To My Children, Family, and Loved One Don't grieve for me, I've been set free I didn't say no When God came and said Son it's time to go I have left my earthly home I'm at peace and resting in my heavenly home I couldn't be in a better place Talking to my Father God face to face I'll be watching from above Family continue to show and share much love.
