Obituary of Willie Elwood Taliaferro, Sr.

Willie Elwood Taliaferro, Sr. was born to Faurice and Mary E. Jones Taliaferro in Powhatan County, Virginia. Willie joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He loved the Lord and the 23rd Psalm: "The Lord is my Sheppard I shall not want." Willie was educated at Powhatan County Schools. He worked at R.J. Willis Farm, Lovin's Produce, Tillman's Lumbar Company, and Powhatan Middle School (where he retired). Willie enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, listening to old music, and watching his stories on TV every day. He loved to spend time with his grandkids and spoiling them. He was kind to everyone and was always jolly. He loved to joke around and make people laugh. Willie knew a lot of people and made a lot of friends. His "ace buddies" are Robert Taliaferro, the late Robert Smalls, Audrey and the late Russell Hill, Gregory Taliaferro, Earl Smothers, Roger Brown, Michelle Taliaferro, Aaron Legette, Sue Featherston, Jerry and Edith Hollis, Juanita Bell, and Alex and Mary Jackson. Willie Elwood Taliaferro, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at his residence. Willie was preceded in death by one brother Wayne Taliaferro and one sister Luevenary Strickland. Willie is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-four years, Georgianna Scruggs Taliaferro; four children Crystal Taliaferro, Tonia Taliaferro Legette, Willie Taliaferro Jr., and Andre Taliaferro; nine grandchildren Tiara Taliaferro, Makayla Taliaferro, Willie Taliaferro III, Dre'Von Taliaferro, Tyron Taliaferro, Shamyah Taliaferro, Laiylah Taliaferro, Ay'Vion Legette, Faith Legette, and one great grandson, Torien Peters; two sisters, Linda Smalls and Mary Scruggs; two brothers, George Taliaferro (Theresa), Faurice Taliaferro (Barbara), one uncle Lloyd Brown, four sisters- in-law, two brothers- in-law, and of host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
