Obituary of Cynthia Morris Epps

Cynthia Morris Epps was born to James and Alice Taylor Morris on January 13, 1935, in Powhatan, Virginia. She was the oldest daughter of eleven siblings. She graduated from Pocahontas High School, Powhatan VA, and furthered her education at Saint Paul's College, Lawrenceville, VA where she was initiated as a member of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She began her career teaching at the historical St Francis de Sales High School of Powhatan, VA. She then moved to New York to further her career. She met the love of her life Arthur Lee Epps (King Arthur). Arthur was a professional entertainer, song writer, singer, and keyboardist. He first entertained at Jekyll Island in Georgia, and later performed with the group "The Drifters."They married and relocated to Richmond, VA. She continued her career as a Home Economics teacher at the Bon Air Learning Center, Bon Air, VA. Upon retirement she ended her career at Beaumont Learning Center, Powhatan, VA as a Work-Release Coordinator. Her hobbies were sewing (a fond memory was when she gave lessons to her nieces, Chelsea and Chynna. They still have their first sewing items), floral arrangements, knitting, crafts, ceramics, bowling, croquette, crossword puzzles, Solitaire, Pinochle cards, and playing bingo. She was an active member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church until her health declined. She served in many ministries such as trustees, adult choir, and was paramount in starting the children's choir along with her late sister Jacqueline Hicks. She was also instrumental in bringing music workshops to Mt Zion. In addition, she was the founding member of the "James Morris Memorial Singers." Cynthia enjoyed traveling, and one of her best trips was to California and Las Vegas accompanied by her sister and brother ( Janet & Lloyd). Lastly, she was a big movie buff and used to take her youngest sister (Maria) and other siblings to the movies. Cynthia was very competitive and enjoyed her favorite family games such as Family Feud, Match Game, Scrabble, and Catch Phrase. She was also a devoted Washington Commanders fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister ( Jacqueline Hicks), brothers ( James, Bernard, and Leon Morris). She is survived by her sisters (Shirley Martin, Janet Morris and Maria Cosby (Lloyd) of Powhatan, VA; Irma Fleming (Ralph) of Richmond, VA; Edna Morris of Washington, D.C.; brother (Lloyd Morris) of Fort Washington, MD; sister-in-law (Carol Morris) of Boyd, MD; god daughters (Pamela Crump (Robert), Venus Green (William), and Tiffany Morris); devoted great niece Shayla Booker (Bre), devoted nephew (Craig Wright); devoted cousin (Gloria Morris Richardson) of Red Hill, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Aunts have no wands or wings, So, they work with wisdom, love, and things. Having taken on this role, You loved me right down to my soul. You offered kindness. And greetings with a hug and kiss, Each freely out of love which your "Boo Boo" will miss. I chose a twinkling star in the sky at night, To say a prayer for you to its bright light. You're in God's Heavens now and no longer in pain, In my thoughts, you'll always remain. How lucky I was, How blessed I've been, You were more than my aunt, You were also my friend.
