Obituary

Edith Harper was born in Cartersville, VA on August 31, 1922, to Roan and Rebeca Lewis Randolph.

She grew up in a loving and supportive home with her seven brothers and sisters. Edith attended school in Cartersville, Virginia. Following school, she traveled to New York seeking employment. Edith became a domestic worker and was respected by her employers. Some of whom she remained in contact with well after retirement.

Edith was also married to Raymond Harper.

Edith came to know the Lord at an early age and accepted Christ as her Savior, Edith loved serving the Lord and knew that she was home when she found Shiloh Baptist Church, where she attended for over 50 yrs. Edith also served as a missionary, became a deacon and  previously served as chair of the deacons ministry. She also loved singing in the gospel chorus. Her love for flowers led her to become a member of the flower guild at the church and president of the club. However, Edith never forgot her home church, New Hope Baptist Church in Cartersville, VA. She attended the church's homecoming every third Sunday in August, until her health would no longer allow her to do so.

Edith was called home to her eternal rest on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was predeceased by brothers, William Randolph (Annie), Clayton Randolph (Helen), Frank Randolph (Dorothy); sisters, Annie Maple Parker, Beulah Randolph, Lucy Randolph, Florence Harper (Stom). She was endeared and loved by all. Although our hearts are heavy at this time, there is no doubt that Edith is in a better place with her loved ones who have gone before her.

Edith loved her family which was evidenced throughout her life. Her parents had a special place in her heart until their death. Edith loved all of her nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Edith played a major role in the life of Clara West and her son Gregory Morris. Edith became a mother figure to Clara. Their bond continued until her death. Edith also played a special and loving role in the lives of her sister Beulah's daughters; Irene, Arlene, and Laura Christine. Edith was the matriarch of the family.
