Obituary of Bonnie Brantley Patterson

Bonnie Rue Patterson was born to Samuel and Callie Brantley on November 17, 1937. She was the youngest of eight children. She was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newville, Alabama. At the age of 10, she gave her life to Christ. She completed high school in 1956 and was formally trained as a midwife. She worked as a Missionary until she married her husband, Egray Patterson. Bonnie became a homemaker and mother of five children: Ross Eugene, Sharon Una, Russell Andre & Tracy. Tracy was a twin sister to Tonia, who died as an infant in January 1967. Bonnie and her husband moved to New Jersey in 1962. She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Orange, N.J., in 1963. She became active in the church by joining the gospel chorus and teaching the intermediate Sunday School and Sunbeam classes. She became widowed in October 1984. She moved to Arizona with her oldest son Ross and his family, attending Calvary Baptist Church for a few years. From there, she moved to Ohio with her youngest son, Russell, and his family and visited Spinning Road Baptist Church for two years. She returned to New Jersey in 1985 and lived with her eldest daughter, Sharon, son-in-law Allan, and family. In 1991, she moved in with her youngest daughter, Tracy, and her family. She attended New Hope Baptist Church, and after three visits, she became a member. Bonnie joined the missionary, the choir, and the Nurse's Unit. She traveled with the International Travelers to Israel, where she was baptized again in the Jordan River. She moved to Irvington, NJ, where she resided in The Jewish Federation Towers in her apartment, with her sisters Jessie and Marie living in the same building. The grandchildren loved to visit all three as you could go from one apartment to another and enjoy the love and delicious treats each had to offer. She eventually moved back to Dothan, Alabama, where she lived in a senior living apartment. Unfortunately, in 2006, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins's lymphoma, which she was able to conquer after moving back to Virginia so that she could be treated at one of the finest medical facilities, VCU Massey Center. She eventually moved into Monarch Woods on Jahnke Road, where she met many friends and was able to enjoy her independence. In the past couple of years, her health began to become complicated by COPD, and kidney failure. She had recently had surgery to obtain a device that would be needed to start dialysis, but God had another plan. On Saturday, December 23, 2023, she was relieved of all pain and discomfort. It was time to go home to be with our Lord and Savior. She is resting now in His arms. She was the last surviving sibling of the Brantley Family. She is survived by her children, Ross Eugene Patterson(Susan); Sharon Patterson; Russell Andre Patterson(Darnella); Tracy Hobson(Roger); her grandchildren, Ryan Patterson, Michelle Patterson, Quiana Roquemore (Joseph), Jasmine Mason, Randal Patterson(Jia), Isaiah Patterson, Amber Jones, Curtis Jones, Stacey Alston (Omar), Randi L Townes (Alvin), Roger Hobson III; her great-grandchildren, Justin Frye Jr, Jordan Frye, Janae Frye, Joshua Alston, Kamari Roshon Jackson, Destin Jackson, Saige Foster, Anna McCray, Abigail McCray, Ren Patterson, Rae Patterson, Layla Williams, LaNya Williams, Rylee Thomas and many nieces, cousins, and friends.
