Obituary of Lionel Lee Anderson
Lionel was born on October 2, 1961, to John B. Anderson and Florence Drew Anderson at St. Philip Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
He was reared in Powhatan where he attended Powhatan County Public schools, starting with the old Pocahontas Elementary school. Lionel accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at and became a member of First Antioch Baptist Church.
Lionel was a dedicated husband, son, and friend. Lionel always put family and loved ones first. He worked hard to take care of his family, working first with Henry Carroll and for numerous years with Bell Hauling. Lionel seemed tireless in his effort and willingness to work to provide for Phyllis, Lil Lionel, and his nephew. He was a fearless protector and defender of his family and the people whom he loved. His mother often joked that "he’s her favorite." The rest of them already knew that. Anytime Lionel showed up to visit his mother, laughter would soon follow, usually at the expense of one or all his siblings. Whether relating one of his many stories or uttering one of his phrases such as his often repeated "pressure make a pipe bust," Lionel's quick wit would leave everybody laughing and wondering what was coming next.
Lionel was kindhearted, caring, and willing to sacrifice for others. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to those who needed it. Many understood that when help was needed, if work had to be done, call Lionel. Lionel loved hunting, storytelling, kids, and driving his dump truck. We suspect that he was also the favorite uncle, but we won't ask. He would joke with one of his nieces, another truck driver, about who was the smallest truck driver between the two of them. Anyone who knew him knew that Lionel lived life to the fullest, and that his light, his life, his laughter, and his love will! be greatly missed by all.

Evening Comes
But I Will Remember You in Mornings
I will remember you when the sun first peeks through backyard cedar trees
I will remember you in brightness, in light
I will remember you at times too early for sorrow
I will remember you with hope, and joy and laughter
I will remember your strength
I will remember when we had nothing, but didn't know it
I will remember Bible verses in Sunday school
I will remember not needing to be afraid
I will remember you from "Y'all go outside and play" to "Y'all get in the house before dark."
Evening comes
And now the brightness and light no longer peeks through trees
Yet I will still remember you in mornings
After tears have washed my eyes
After being wrapped in arms
After being graced by God
I will remember you in mornings
I will remember you in times too early for sorrow.
