Obituary of Iretha Wood
Obituary
Martha Iretha Wood was born September 26, 1924, to Hugh and Ida Anderson Wood. Iretha accepted Christ at an early age.
She attended Richmond County Public School. She worked for Chesterfield Social Services in her earlier years as a custodian until retirement in 1999.
Iretha was a soft-spoken woman, who loved jewelry, dolls, and money. She was always smiling and quick to correct you when you were wrong. Her facial expression always let you know how she felt. She loved spending time with her family, posing for pictures, and loved to travel, by car only. She said she would never fly in a plane.
Iretha never married and never had children, but she had her niece Shelia whom she loved as her daughter, then she had her dolls which were her children as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosa Shearn; niece, Gloria Harris; nephew, Sand McGuire Jr., (Kathleen); great nephew, Julius Pompey; great great-nephew, Jaydon Pompey. Iretha lived a full and happy life until the ripe youthful age of 99 years. On December 4, 2023, she received her wings at 6:30 am Monday morning.
Iretha leaves to cherish fond memories, niece, Shelia P. Crump (Aaron); nephew, Eugene McGuire; four great nephews, Alonza Harris, Marshall Pompey, Ivan McGuire, and Clifton Pompey; great niece, Maria McGuire and other relatives and friends.
"Never Look Down on anybody Unless you're helping them up.
"To My Aunt" I cried when you passed away and thank you,
for being such an Important Piece of my life.
Your love and kindness will always be in my heart.
I love you so much.
I love you, only an aunt can give love like a mother.
