Obituary of Gwendolyn Rose Trent

Please share a memory of Gwendolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gwendolyn Rose Trent, daughter of the late Willie LeRoy Sams and the late Martha Louise Roberts was born in Houston, Texas on June 02, 1950. Gwendolyn was raised by her late grandmother, Estella Campbell and her Aunt Mattie Elizabeth Tate, affectionately known as "Ma Dea". She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduation, she attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, where she majored in Accounting. During her senior year, she met her husband, Abraham Trent Jr. of Cumberland County, Virginia, whom she married shortly after graduation. Gwendolyn was a banker, who retired with over 15 years of service with Circuit City. They had one son, Clifton De Wayne Trent Sr., who preceded her in death, on September 26th, 1993. After nearly 40 years of marriage, Abraham Trent Jr. departed life on May 9th, 2010. Gwen was a strong woman, who was very loving and firm. She was lovingly outspo- ken. You knew where you stood with her at all times. She loved to debate. In the early sev- enties, she was a Black Panther who was part of "The Movement" to fight for equality. She was a colorful person who believed in living your culture and being yourself. Until the day she left us, she would say "Right On" to express her support. She loved sports of all kinds. You can find her yelling at the television when her Redskins and Nascar was on. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhart were her favorite drivers. She was the rock of her family. She was affectionately known as "Mother Hen" and provided love and shelter to many who needed her. On Monday, March 7th, 2011 she departed this life at Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital at Johnston Willis in Richmond, Virginia surrounded by her loving family and friends. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her beloved grandson, Clifton Jr. and his mother Sheronda Lighty and E. G. Staton, whom she considered to be a son; four sisters, Roza- lin Taylor of Kansas, Patricia Culverson and Rowena Thompson of Oklahoma, and Edna Scruggs of Virginia; a loving father-in-law, Abraham Trent, Sr. of New York; two brothers-in- law, Clarence Trent Sr. (Mary) and George Trent Sr. (Lisa) of New York; five sisters-in-law, Demple West (Walter Sr.) of Virginia, Lucille Strange (Harvey), Ivory Brown, Patricia Trent and Dorothy Spruill (Curtis Sr.) all of New York; Her nephews, Christopher Thompson, Torrey, Troy, Ronnie, Clarence Jr., Terence, Tamian and a host of other nephews. Her nieces, Navercia, Sasha, Tamia, Tara, Arleen, her caregiver Crystal Thompson and a host of other nieces. Her spiritual sisters, Margaret Jackson, Iris Mack, Victoria Burton and her sister-in- law, Mary Trent. Her cousin Lillian Greene and a host of other cousins and friends.
