Obituary
Harry Junior Reed, 71, departed this life on July 6, 2023, at
Henrico Doctors Hospital after battling a lengthy illness. He was
born on December 18, 1951, in Goochland, VA to Rosa Reed who
preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother,
James Reed. Harry leaves to cherish his memories one-half brother
George Mayo, and special friends Tena Fauntleroy of Richmond, VA,
Roy Palmore of Powhatan, VA, Larry Ford, and James Shelton of
Goochland, VA.
Harry was baptized at an early age when he accepted Christ
as his Lord and Savior. Harry attended Goochland County Public
Schools.
Harry worked for twenty-five years at Ruffin and Payne Lumber
Company until he became disabled and could no longer work. He
loved his job and would always reminisce about how he enjoyed
traveling to New York City, Oklahoma, Chicago, and many other
cities during his tenure with the company. He also mentioned how
he would always send money back home to his dear mother while he
was away. He never forgot his momma and talked about her often.
His joy in life was singing. As he grew older, he continued to
serve and worship the Lord. He then joined New Hope Baptist
Church where he sang on the Men's Choir. He was so proud to be
a part of the group which he cherished with all his heart. He would
always let you know when the choir would be singing at different
churches.
In 2009 Harry also served on the Usher Board where he took
pride in his duties when he was able. Harry was given a Certificate of
Appreciation for his commitment to serve the church's congregation.
He was also an exceptionally good prayer partner and knew exactly
what to say to make you feel better. His steadfastness for Jesus kept
pressing on.
Harry was a loving and kind person to know. He loved his family
and mentioned them all the time. He had some funny stories to tell
about his aunt, grandfather, brother James and his mother. He would
have you laughing your head off. Also, we all know, Harry told a lot
of jokes as well. He also had a special gift of remembering old music
from the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Somehow, he could remember the
lyrics to songs and sing them note for note. How he did it – I could not
tell you, but he did it!
Harry lived a good life and as he makes his transition on to his new
home with our heavenly Father, we wish him peace, joy, and happiness.
He fought a good fight down here on earth and he did the best that he
could do, and we salute you. May you rest in peace dear Harry until we
meet again.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm Free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all!
I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it up with remembered joys
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free
