Obituary of Jamie Patrice Nash
Please share a memory of Jamie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jamie Patrice Nash, 24, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Powhatan, Va., unexpectedly departed this life on June 8, 2023. She was loved by many, and leaves a host of family and friends whose lives she impacted to mourn their loss.
On August 24, 1998, the world was blessed with the arrival of Jamie Patrice Nash. Jamie was welcomed by a host of adoring family members, most of all her parents, Vita Patrice Miles Nash and James Bernard Nash aka Rock of Powhatan, Va. Later, Jamie was joined by younger sister, Amanda, and together, they enjoyed a childhood that was full of family, friends and much love. Her early birthday parties and the joyful family gatherings at her home were legendary.
As a child, Jamie accepted Jesus Christ and became a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, where her family was active. She regularly attended Children's Church, sang in the children's choir and assisted with community service, such as food bank packaging and delivery.
During her school years, Jamie was social and outgoing. She played soccer and participated in gymnastics. She danced for many years with Premiere Dance Studio. Jamie enjoyed swimming, writing short stories, typing and spending time with her cousins and close friends. At Pocahontas Elementary School, Jamie read to younger students. At Powhatan Middle School, she was a peer mediator. At Powhatan High School, she was a member of the track team.
After high school, Jamie worked several different jobs and was contemplating a return to school, as she considered any number of careers that would match her many gifts. She was focused on continuous improvement and on building the life she most wanted.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Jamie recognized her as a strong personality with a playful sense of humor. She loved to laugh. She was keenly observant and able to draw precise conclusions about what others might not understand or recognize. She was humble about her abilities, but she was creative and thoughtful with insights of brilliance. She was a problem-solver and a go-getter. Jamie was passionate about her plans and preferences, and she was intensely loyal to those she loved. She saw things plainly and handled life head-on.
Jamie endured her share of challenges, and was never shy about acknowledging them. In the last year of her life, she rose to new levels of strength and accomplishment, and she seemed to find a new appreciation for just how capable she was. Her awakened sense of self was apparent to those around her, and it inspired everyone who saw it.
Losing Jamie so unexpectedly has been a shock and will be a source of hard grief for some time to come. She made an indelible mark on each of us. Her beautiful smile will stay with us always. And the many happy memories with Jamie will be like flowers that grow forever in the gardens of our hearts. She was full of love and promise, and it pains us to let her go.
Jamie joins those who went before her, grandparents, Curtis J. Ross Sr., Floyd A. and Hortense J. Miles; her dear uncle, Floyd N. "Bruss" Miles; and several close friends. Left to cherish every memory of Jamie are her parents; sister; grandmother, A. Geraldine Phillips; and sister-like cousins, Arielle and Jordan Miles. Also mourning this profound loss are Jamie's aunts, beloved Julie Miles who she viewed as a second mom, much loved and supportive Angela King (Bradford), Dr. E. Marlene Miles, Doretha Harris, Linda Ballard, Joyce Miles and their families; uncles, beloved and devoted Gerald "Al" Nash (Gloria), Reginald and Lynwood Miles and their families; and other relatives and friends. She had unique bonds with her numerous cousins, but spent special times with cousins, Miles, Gabriel, Ethan and Anson King affectionately known as the King boys; Brianna Nash, Destanie and Danielle Taylor; Chris Bethea; an older, beloved cousin, George "Gilbert" Nash Jr.; and her very special love, Kevin Acosta Reyes.
Jamie is done with life's adversities, challenges and strife. God has given her the ultimate victory. Though much sooner than we would like, her work here is complete. God does not make mistakes. Though weeping endures for now, we are deeply grateful for the time we had with her, and we will rejoice with our Jamie together in Heaven when we meet again. Until then, her legacy will remain in our hearts forever.
If roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Daughter's arms
and tell her they are from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek,
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it everyday.
But there is an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
