REVEREND DOCTOR LORENE BOOKER HUTCHERSON entered this life May 16, 1927 in Buckingham County to the late Irene Chambers Booker and Deacon Robert Booker Sr.
She received her education at the Buckingham Training School in Buckingham County graduating from the S.C. Abrams High School in Fluvanna County. Furthering her education, Sister Hutcherson attended the Virginia Union University School of Theology in Richmond, VA and received her Doctor of Divinity from the Faith International Bible College.
Retiring from the Central Piedmont Action Council (CPAC) after 33 years of service, Sister Hutcherson continued her activism in the community as well as her dedication in the following organizations: CPAC Board of Directors, Nelson County Ministers Conference, Club XXV, NAACP, Zion Sunday School Union, United Baptist Association and Women Missionary, Education Convention of Central Virginia, Baptist General Convention, Area F, Buckingham Voter's League, Buckingham
Training School Commemoration, Inc., Dean of Buckingham County Church Wide Institute, Order of the Eastern Stars, Heroines of Jericho as well as one of the founding members of the Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) and founding member of the Spiritual Travelers Gospel Singers.
In the year of 1991, God called Sister Hutcherson to the ministry. Upon this calling, she became the Associate Minister under the leadership of Reverend Maynard Jones of the Union Branch Baptist Church. Her church involvement included: member of the Sr. Choir and Gospel Chorus, Missionary, Superintendent and teacher of Sunday School, Deaconess, Usher, Improvement League, Pastor's Aid and Women's Ministry among others.
Sister Hutcherson was preceded in death by her devoted husband Thomas Wesley Hutcherson, Sr.; loving son Edward Daniel Hutcherson; sister Hattie Curtis and two brothers Robert Lee Booker and James Albert Booker.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons Thomas Wesley Hutcherson, Jr. (Sandra) and Robert James Hutcherson, Sr. both of Arvonia, VA; a daughter Florene "Flo" H. Taylor (Milton) of Charlottesville, VA; five grandsons Robert Hutcherson, Jr. (Barbara), Bruce Hutcherson (Angela), Adrian Hutcherson (Shona), Jamie Turner and Milton Taylor, Jr; one granddaughter Salena Hutcherson (Denard); 12 great grandchildren; a brother Edward Lewis Booker, Sr. (Ruby) of Arvonia, VA; a sister Pearl Powell of Richmond, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
