Obituary
Obituary of Novella Logan Mayo
Please share a memory of Novella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Novella Minerva Mayo was born on June 1, 1937 to Jacob R. Satchell and Corine Logan.
Novella was baptized at an early age and attended Richmond Public Schools. She married George, the love of her life, on November 25, 1955.
Novella worked as a secretary for temp agencies in Montclair, NJ and as an information operator for New Jersey Bell Telephone. She devoted much of her time to making a home and serving the Lord at Union Baptist Church in Montclair; where she sang in the choir, taught adult and youth Sunday school, served as Deaconess, and managed a marriage counseling group.
She also helped manage her husband's business as secretary and bookkeeper. Once retired, Novella enjoyed travelling with her husband and entertaining family and friends. Famous for family gatherings she was known as an excellent cook. She loved children and was always willing to help family and friends.
Novella was a quiet, unassuming woman who loved a good joke. When confronted with a problem her immediate response was "I'm gonna let God handle that." She loved the Lord with her whole heart and enjoyed Bible study over the phone with her Pastor and anyone who would sit at her kitchen table long enough. Her favorite past time was reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music as she prayed for family and friends. We will all miss her sweet nature and her ready ear. Always willing to listen, Novella shared God's love and wisdom whenever she could.
She departed this life on January 11, 2023 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Mayo.
Novella is survived by a brother, Albert Martin Jr., and two sisters: Cecilia Mayo and Corine Wythe as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of her as gone away
her journey's just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and no years.
Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched.
For nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much.
