Obituary of Emma Delthia Crump Jones

Emma Delthia Crump Jones was born in Cumberland, Virginia on April 23, 1940. She was the daughter of Catherine Crump. Emma attended the Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland, VA. Emma accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Center Union Baptist Church. She was an active member of Center Union Baptist Church and helped with the setting up of the Communion table, attending Sunday school faithfully and church picnic events. She enjoyed going to different churches in the community, especially Mt. Pero Baptist Church until she was unable to go due to her illness. Emma lived for numerous years in Yonkers, New York and returned to Richmond, VA where she made it her home until the year 2000. In 2001, Emma and daughter, Vanessa built a home together in Cumberland, VA. She worked and cared for numerous families while in Richmond, VA until she retired. Emma was a diehard baseball fan. She often took her nephews and friends to baseball games at the Diamond in Richmond, VA. She also was the barbecue queen for family and friends cookouts, her specialty was barbecue ribs. Emma loved people and enjoyed traveling to Riverhead Long Island, NY to see her family and friends. She loved taking pictures of family and friends and would take your picture when you least expected it. Emma often expressed that, "I have lived a good life and have had fun times in my lifetime." Emma departed this life early Thursday morning, July 28, 2022 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA. Emma was preceded in death by: her husband, John Otis; five sisters and seven brothers. She leaves to cherish loving memories: a devoted daughter, Vanessa Dotson (Roger, whom she loved and he called her "Emmaus"); bonus son, Nathan Lee; two God-grandchildren, Tyesha White (Antre') and Logan Dunson; God-great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Azalia White; one brother, Linwood Crump, Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Parena Crump; a host of numerous nieces; one special niece, Brenda Brown, who spent a lot of time with her in New York; nephews, cousins, one devoted, Mrs. Pearl Macklin (James), Douglas and Laverne Goode and Deacon Ernest and Patty Booker; lots of loving friends, one devoted, Mrs. Wanda Evans (Clyde), whom she loved and called her sister. Emma developed a special daughter's bond with the following individuals: Katina Bates Logan, Latisha Dunson, Trinette Jefferson and LaFonda Redd. They affectionately called her "Ma Jones". When it's all over I shall wear a crown when it's all over I'm going to put on my robe Tell the story of how I made it over Soon as I get home, I shall see his face When it's all over Emma Delthia/Momma I saw the pain and your struggle everyday You never gave up, you kept on fighting. Your love for me was unconditional Although you were struggling to breathe you continued to care for me through my sickness. It was nothing short of a mother's love for her daughter. Emma Delthia, as I called you, I will be missing you and will never forget your love. You fought a good fight and you won the battle. With all my love, your daughter, Vanessa "I'll Be Seeing You" I am at rest, don't cry It will be easier as times go by I've done my best to live a good life For I knew if I did, I would be with Christ As my body lies here, it's only a shell God has called me home and my job I've done well Now I'm happy and very content For things I've done wrong, I repent Y ou know and I know that it's hard on earth So, you should not cry at death, but at birth I have no worries, pains, or fears, Because I'm with God, dry your tears. I love you all and this is what I want you to do Put God first in your life and I'll be seeing you.
