Channing Lamar Key was born on December 15, 1966, to Oscar and Geraldine Key in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Channing accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Greenbrier Baptist Church and was extended the Right Hand of Fellowship by Pastor Darnell Carruthers. Channing married the love of his life, Earica Hill on July 4, 1998, and from this union they have one son, Channing Jamal Key (C J ). Channing was employed by Ford Motor Company in Edison, New Jersey for seven years before he and his family moved to Mobile, Alabama. In Mobile he was employed by Continental Motors as a material handler. To his family and friends, he was known as "Heavy D." He loved collecting clowns and cars and going to the casino. "Heavy" also liked trying out new restaurants. To know Channing was to love him. Even in his illness, he never complained. He was always positive and full of faith. There was never a time you didn't see a smile on his face. Channing gained his wings on January 22, 2022, and went home to eternal rest with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Channing was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Herman Brown, senior and his paternal grandmother, Ethel Key. Channing leaves a legacy of beautiful memories: The love of his life, his wife, Earica Key, Powhatan, Virginia, the son he adored, Channing (C J ) Key, Powhatan, Virginia; his wonderful parents, Oscar and Geraldine "momskee" Key, Powhatan, Virginia; two brothers, Dion (April) Key, Chester, Virginia, and Sean Key, Dallas, Texas; one sister, Tamara (Shane) Nash, Powhatan,, Virginia; mother-in-law, Diana Hill, Atlanta GA, grandmother, Fannie Brown, Powhatan, Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends. Remembering Our Love I was chosen today I'm learning to fly The world took me away But please don't cry And I chose you today to try and be strong So please don't you cry And don't say that I'm gone When you're feeling alone Just remember our love, I'm up near the stars Looking down from above Remember our love In a moment you'll see That I'm still here beside you When you're thinking of me Channing's favorite saying was "There it is!"
