Obituary of Harriet L. Parker

Harriet Parker was born in Cumberland, Virginia to Robert L. Jackson, Sr. and Ellen Taylor Jackson on December 3, 1935. At an early age she was baptized and joined Cornerstone Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Harriet was educated in Cumberland County Public Schools and later attended St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a substitute teacher. In fact, she was one of the first three black women to work at the all white school in Cumberland County prior to desegregation. Growing up, Harriet enjoyed being outside and riding horses versus doing housework. Harriet was lovingly called Mustang Sally. She loved watching her favorite football teams, playing bingo, watching horse races, going to the sweepstakes, playing cards with her family, listening to soulful musical songs and dancing with her late husband. She was generous beyond measure, often giving her last and always ensuring that family and friends were well fed in her presence. Her most well-known dishes were turkey wings, potato salad and deviled eggs. Harriet departed this life on January 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold E. Parker, Sr. She leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Harold E. Parker, Jr. and Julius Parker (Penny); one daughter, Jill Davis (Brian); one brother, Robert Jackson, Sr.; two sisters, Christine Oliver and Vivian Clark (George); six grandchildren, Ginger Muhaw (Marc), Brian Davis, Jr., (Shantelle), Christina Greggs (Stedman), Julius Parker, Jr. (Ebony), Briana Alston (Ajee), and Jasmine Parker; six great-grandchildren, Gianna, Markie, Genevieve, Noah, Harvest and Skylar; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her Journey's Just Begun Don't think of her as gone away her journey's just begun. Life holds many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and no years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, For nothing loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much. Author Unknown
