Obituary of Hazel Christine Brown

Hazel "Authority" you have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand upholds me, and your gentleness makes me great. Psalm 18:35 Hazel Christine Elizabeth Harris Brown was born on September 21, 1941, to Robert Harris and Molly Alease Miles Phillips. She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pero Baptist Church. In 1961 Hazel graduated from Pocahontas High School in Powhatan, VA. She married Roger Hobson, Sr. and from that union were blessed with Roger Hobson, Jr. They moved to New Jersey where she worked for numerous employers including Pinkerton Security and the State of New Jersey First Occupational (Crew Labor). Hazel enjoyed playing bid whiz, bingo, going to the casino, talking on the phone, watching Family Feud and Jimmy Swaggart. In the late 1970's, she married Joseph W. Brown. From that union, they were blessed with Joseph C. Brown. She moved back to Virginia in the early 2000's and worked for the Chesterfield Mental Health Day Support Services (Lucy Corr). After returning to Powhatan, she joined the Mt. Pero Baptist Church Usher's Ministry and Trustee Board. Hazel is survived by her two sons, Roger Hobson, Jr. (Tracy) and Joseph Carvel Brown; three grandchildren, Stacey Alston (Omar), Randi Hobson and Roger Hobson, III; four great grandchildren; Justin Frye, Jr., Jordan Frye, Janae Frye, and Joshua Alston, one brother; Cavell Phillips (Vanessa) and a host of cousins and friends. Miss Me But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me. I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not for long, and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we shared, Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone.
