Obituary of Bertha Baker

Bertha Baker was born on November 18, 1938 in Buckingham, Virginia to Charlie Booker and Mary Trent Booker. On Friday, December 11, 2020 she departed this life and journeyed home to be with her heavenly Father. Bertha accepted Christ at an early age and became a lifelong member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She attended Buckingham County public schools. She was a hard worker and was employed as a domestic for many years for a private family until her retirement. Bertha loved people and spending time with her family and friends. She often sat on the front porch and greeted all that passed by. She genuinely enjoyed being outside tending flowers and helping her son-in-law with yard work when she was able. She also liked to dance and to cook. Her most favorite meal was cabbage and fried chicken. She had a lot of friends and was a special, sweet, and loveable person. She will be missed by her family. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward Baker; three sons, William Baker, Franklin Baker and James Baker; her twin brother, Early Booker and her brothers, Jim Booker and Junior Booker; sisters, Annie Swann, Ruth Booker and Virginia Bolden and a grandson, Michael Baker. She leaves to cherish fond memories: one son, Joseph Baker; four daughters, Susie Carter (Robert), Virginia Rose, Arlene Baker and Sandy Baker; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Rose (Lloyd) and Louise Swann; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Baker and Eulamae Baker; two devoted great nieces, Tayziana Booker and Dede Swann; nephew, Hasan Swann; a devoted caregiver, Dorothy Foster and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
