Obituary of Stanley Rydell Kirkwood

Stanley Kirkwood, Jr. was born January 31, 1944 to the late Minnie P.Kirkwood and Stanley Kirkwood, Sr. in Columbia VA. He departed this life on September 24, 2019 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond VA. After graduating from Goochland High School, he moved to Richmond VA where he met and married the love of his life, Loretha Boatwright. To this union they had one son, Stanley Kirkwood III, and daughter, Felicia Kirkwood. Stanley worked with Howel's heating and air conditioning for many years but also loved working on cars during his spare time. He also loved playing dominoes with family and friends. He was well known for singing and loved to sing at funerals and at Church. He sang in a gospel group for many years until he decided that he wanted to sing on his own. He is survived by his wife, Loretha Kirkwood; son, Stanley; daughter, Felicia; eight grandchildren; Laura, Egypt, Kellan, Ky'iel, Ky'shon, Ke'Aari, and Kaiden; one stepdaughter Michelle Boatwright; five sisters, Lorene Fleming (Harold), Minnie Bland, Jean Mason, Mary Hatcher (Richard), and Gloria McCoulough; one brother, Wayne Fields (Diane); sisters-in-law, Rosa Gains, Bernice Boatwright, and Mollie Boatwright; one brother-in-law, Ernest Boatwright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He will truly be missed. GOD SAW YOU God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be. So, he wrapped his arms around you, And whispered, "come to me." You didn't deserve what you went through, So, he gave you rest. God's Garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best And when I saw you sleeping, So peaceful and free from pain I could not wish you back To suffer that again.
