Obituary of Edgar S. Berry

Edgar S. Berry, Jr. was born on October 29, 1935, to the late Irene Hendricks Berry and Edgar S. Berry in New York, N.Y.. He was the eldest of two children, he entered into eternal rest October 10, 2010.
Edgar was educated in the New York City Public School system, He joined the Air Force in 1957 and served at various stations around the world as staff sergeant and flight engineer. He separated after serving 10 years and joined the New York City Transit Police Department. He retired after serving 21 years. During this time he continued his education at John Jay College of Criminal Justice where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
After his retirement and move to Cumberland in 1984, he became active with various jobs and community affairs including: Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, Cumberland Ruritans (member and past President 2005), Cumberland Voter Polls, Piedmont Court Services, ASAP, American Legion and Fuqua Board of Directors.
He was a devoted member and lay minister of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church of Farmville.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Kay Jordan Berry; two children, Robbin Berry and Edgar "Buddy" Berry III; five grandchildren, Nicole Zayas Deans (Elroy), Danielle Wynn Shields (Andrew), Lizette Baptiste, Christopher Berry-Ingram, Britney Berry; one great grandchild, Aaron Deans; devoted sister Yvonne Berry Tyler Gadson; nephew and godson Andrew Tyler, Jr., a devoted nephew, David Norman, niece and goddaughter Adrienne Tyler Fegans (Jerry). Goddaughter, Renee Ashley; Godson, Gavin Jackson, dear friend Henry Pfeiffer (Barbara), John & Mae Ashley, Freddie & Judy Arenas and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
