Obituary of Jon Wali Alston
Please share a memory of Jon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The Alston family would like to begin by thanking everyone
that is here today. We appreciate the prayers, calls, cards and words of
condolences. Our loved one has gone home.
Minister Jon Alston was born October 18, 1975 in New Jersey
to Henry and Marge Alston. He also has two brothers. Jon accepted Christ
into his life at the age of nine and was baptized at the First Baptist Church
of Anderson. Jon became the first Junior Deacon at the First Baptist
Church.
Growing up in Warren County, he attended the Washington
Township School System and graduated from Warren Hills High School in
1993. Jon developed a zeal for basketball early in his life. Playing basketball
at Warren Hills High School, he set school records in assists and was a
1000 points career scorer as a four-year starter.
After graduating, he accepted a scholarship appoint and prep
at the US Naval Academy for two years. At that time, he transferred to
Tennessee State University. At TSU, he graduated with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Criminal Justice.
Led by a desire to help others, his employment focus was in the
field of teaching and social services. He accepted his first position teaching
at Good Shepard Christian School. He went on to hold other employment
positions in Human Service fields in New Jersey and later in Virginia.
Jon met his wife Joy in September of 2008 in Norwalk, Connecticut where
they were married in 2009. Of their union, there are four children.
Shortly thereafter they relocated to Virginia. The family then
joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Jon was licensed to preach the
gospel in 2013.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and best
friend, Joy Alston; children, J'Khari Doyle, Jon Alston, Jr., Autumn
Peterkin-Alston, and Ariyanna Peterkin-Alston. He will be greatly missed
by his parents Rev. Henry and Marjorie Alston; his brothers Lamarr
Alston(Laura) and Omar Alston (Stacey); five brothers-in-law and six
sisters-in-law. There are also a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
May he rest in peace.
