Obituary of Virginia E Boatwright
Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edmonia Virginia Boatwright was born in Buckingham County, Virginia on June 23, 1930. She was one of three girls born to Hattie Queen Mayo and Jim Brown. Her parents and sisters preceded her in death. On Saturday, November 25, 2017, she departed this life at her residence in Cumberland, Virginia.
On November 29, 1958, Virginia was joined in holy matrimony to Andrew Boatwright after relocating to Montclair, New Jersey. From this union, six children were born: Hattie, Eleanor, Andrea, Jane, Dorn, and Floria.
Virginia was a long-time active member of Bright Hope Baptist Church in Montclair where she served faithfully on the Usher Board, Senior Choir, and Pastor's Aide. She was a "Prayer Band Warrior" while serving in the Women's National Evangelistic Conference. She loved going out to sing and have devotions at various nursing homes and visiting the shut-ins.
Virginia relocated back to Virginia in 2014 and again joined Pertersville Baptist Church where she first gave her life to Christ when she was young. She loved her church family and was very fond of her pastor, Rev. Ollie Bolden.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Andrew Boatwright and her eldest daughter, Hattie "Vicky." She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Eleanor, Andrea, Jane, Dorn, and Floria; ten grandchildren, Barbee, Jahon, Hermina, Kevin, Damon, Isaiah, Justin, Iyonna, Kai, Selina and Aleya; seven greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; God-Sister Anne; and God-Daughter, Dorothy Roberts; along with a host of relatives, and friends.
