Obituary of Irene Liggins Haynes
Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene Liggins Haynes was born April 12, 1936. She was one of six amazing sisters born and raised in Powhatan, Virginia. Irene for whom was often referred as "Dae-Dee" by most, received her education from Powhatan Public Schools. Thereafter, she headed north to reside with her sister Mary and brother-in-law to establish a new life. As time progressed she married Walter Lee McCaskill, Sr. and had three wonderful children. Not long after, the Lord called upon Walter Sr. and Irene with the support of her family, continued to thrive together. In time, the Lord saw fit and brought Thomas Earl Haynes into her life. They wed and eventually, traveled back south to Richmond then Powhatan, Virginia where they operated The Peterson's Store. Irene proudly ran that store with her husband for about 5 years or so until she decided to go back into the work force as a shoe salesperson and a sales clerk, which she truly loved. After dedicating years of service in retail, she decided to become a homemaker where she contributed most of her time raising her eldest grandson, Kevin.
Though she lived a fulfilling life, Irene battled with illness and numerous surgeries. Exemplifying the greatest of strength over the years, Irene was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. She was preceded in death by her father Julian Liggins and mother Nannie Hicks Liggins; two husbands Walter Lee McCaskill, Sr. and Thomas Earl Haynes; two sons, Walter Lee McCaskill, Jr. and Stanley Kevin McCaskill; her sister Mary Virginia James (Jethro).
She leaves to cherish her daughter Gloria Denise McCaskill-Wright (Bruce); Daughter-in-law, Judith Wall McCaskill; Three grandsons, Kevin Hank McCaskill (Ashley), Terrell Lei Wright (Monica) and Jermaine Marcel Wright (Brittney); Four Great grand children, Nathan Leon Hamilton, Ayelah Nevaeh McCaskill, JaKobi Marcel Wright and Tamaar Lei Wright; Four Sisters, Anne Ivey (Joe), Estelle Jones (Walter), Neatin Lucas, Barbara King (Willie); Brother-in-Law, Bernard Haynes, Sister-In-Law Viola Walker (Woodrow), Al Haynes (Barbara); One Aunt, Bertha Gray (Alfred); Devoted nieces Marilyn Harper (Norman), Gail James, Diane Simmons (Elliott, Sr.); A very dear friend Mrs. Mary Wiles; Several loving nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends of whom she was fond.
