Obituary of James Lee Scott

James Lee Scott, Sr., 82 of Powhatan, VA departed this life on October 11, 2016 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
James was born in Devereux, Georgia on April 9, 1934, son of the late Jimmie Lee Scott and Francis Lundy Scott.
James accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church, in Elizabeth, NJ. He attended the public schools in Elizabeth, NJ graduating with the class of 1954.
On April 1, 1956, James married the love of his life, Wilnett Inez Hamilton, and from this union three children were born.
James worked 18 years at American Cyanamid where he was a chemical operator and retired as a supervisor. James enjoyed retirement and spent his time deep sea fishing, cooking and enjoying his family and friends.
In 2005, he moved his family to Powhatan, VA, where he continued to enjoy retired life. He joined Greenbrier Baptist Church where he faithfully attended until his health failed. "Pop" as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, could always be found sitting in his recliner, reading his Bible and watching TV.
James was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and David Scott and a son, William Kyle Scott.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 60 years, Wilnett Inez Scott; 2 sons, Elroy A. Scott and James Lee Scott, Jr. (Rhonda) of Powhatan; 2 grandsons, Calvin Scott and William Scott of East Orange, NJ; 1 great-grandson, Markeith Scott of East Orange, NJ; 2 brothers-in-law, Lloyd Taylor, Jr. (Kilja) and Willie Taylor (Luvinia) of Powhatan, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews; 4 devoted friends, Pamela Cousins, Linwood Jackson, Joe Jackson and Roosevelt Gregory.
