Obituary of James C Brown
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, God sent his angels to bring his son, James C. Brown home. James was born October 7, 1938, to the late Hatcher Brown and Blanche Hughes-Johnson.
James joined Mt. Pero at an early age where he remained a faithful and devoted member until his health began to fail. He loved his church and attended bible study regularly. James was ordained a deacon on July 15, 2012. James was taught by his grandparents, Deacon John Brown and Mary Crump Brown the value of hard work and having a relationship with God.
After graduating from Pocahontas High School, he moved to New York to seek employment. James worked with his brother at Zenith-Prales Corp. in New Jersey. James retired from Pfizer Pharmaceutical in New Jersey after 35 years of service.
While in New York, James was married to Martha Hannah. From this union, four children were born. He later married Roberta Jackson and from this union were four step children.
James and his wife, Roberta moved home to Powhatan in 2005. He and his wife joined the Powhatan Friendship Café. He loved to fellowship with the seniors. Whenever asked how he felt he would always reply, "Fair to Middling". He was loved by everyone he met.
James was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and brother, Hatcher Brown, Jr.
He leaves to cherish memories of a life well lived; his wife, Roberta; mother, Blanche Hughes-Johnson; 2 aunts, Leenell Owens and Margaret Gainey; 2 sisters; Mary Simmons and Lucille Hoskins (Robert); beloved children, Margo (Robert), Clay, Ramona, Hasson (Teresa), Timothy (Ivy), Tracy, Robert and Edith; mother-in-law, Gracie E.
