Obituary of Arthur Byrd Banks

Arthur Byrd Banks was born on February 8, 1917 to the late Junious Banks and Marth Trent Banks in Buckingham, Virginia.
Arthur attended school in Buckingham County, Virginia. At an early age, he was baptized and joined Petersville Baptist Church.
In 1935, he joined the CC Camp. Later, in 1938 he moved from Virginia to Harlem, New York. In 1941, he joined the United States Army. He served his country as he went into battle in World War II. Recognized as a World War II Veteran, he received an honorable discharge in 1945.
Arthur was employed by the United States Postal Service in New York City where he gave 32 years of service.
Arthur had two children with his first wife, Nannie Boyd. One daughter, Carrie Banks Garvin and one son, Arthur Banks, Jr., who preceded him in death.
Later in 1965, he married Elizabeth Ann Johnson. To this union two daughters were born; Chiquita Banks Deane and Elizabeth Deloris Perkins.
Arthur passed away in the early hours of July 10, 2016. He leaves to mourn; his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Johnson Banks; three daughters, Carrie Banks Garvin (McKinley), Chiquita Banks Deane (Henry) and Elizabeth Deloris Perkins; one former son-in-law and longtime friend, Archie Giles; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
