Mary Ross Tinsley Smith transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at her home with a host of loved ones by her bedside. Mary Ross, as she was fondly known was born on April 24, 1917, in Ballsville, Virginia to the late Samuel and Mary Tinsley. Mary Ross attended the Ballsville School.
Mary Ross was a faithful member of the Mt. Pero Baptist Church where she served diligently as church clerk for 35 years. She also sang on the Senior Missionary Choir, attended Sunday School regularly and was a Deaconess for many years. She loved her church family dearly.
Mary Ross was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Alfred Smith; son, Robert Garland Smith; and grandson, Michael Smith. She leaves to mourn her loss six daughters; Juanita Clemont (Washington, D.C.); Doris Smith (Capital Heights, Maryland); Mable Hall (Mt. Vernon, New York); Burnett Turner (Powhatan, Virginia); Phyllis Lee (Youngsville, North Carolina) and Carolyn (Solomon) White (Rocky Mount, North Carolina); one "adopted" daughter: Nancy Moore; (Olney, Maryland); two brothers: James (Martha) Tinsely (Bellport , New York) and William (Marty) Tinsley (Richmond, Virginia); one sister -in-law, Sally Langley, one brother-in-law, Porter Smith, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a faithful companion, Priscilla Wilkerson and many friends. Mary Ross will be truly missed by each and everyone who knew and loved her.
