Obituary of Lucy Harriett Bland

Deaconess Lucy Harriet Bland, 88 of New Canton, VA went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2015 at her home in New Canton, VA. She was born on March 15, 1926 to the Late Levitt and Elnora Perkins. Deaconess Bland gave her life to the Lord many years ago and continued to serve and praise the Lord until her death. She joined Zion Grove Baptist Church at an early age and then transferred her membership to Third Liberty Baptist Church where she worked faithfully with the choir, missionary and hospitality ministries. She taught Sunday school, Matron of the Youth Missionary, and a member of the Deacons and Deaconess Conference of Buckingham and Vicinity. When her grandson (Rev. Patrick Bland) became the Pastor of Mt. Pero Baptist Church in Powhatan, she faithfully went with him for support each Sunday Morning and attended Bible Study. Deaconess Lucy Bland was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Samuel Bland; daughter, Rosa Patterson; parents Elnora and Levitt Perkins; Sisters Rosa Hartman; Arlene Jordan; Corine Bland; Fannie Scruggs; and Edith James; Brothers, Clarence Perkins; Earl Perkins, and Thomas Perkins. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughters/Barbara Jones(Lewis) of New York, Carol Johnson, Veronica Belton of New Canton, Va and Sandara Henderson (Harvie) of Richmond; Sixteen grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Scott of Pamplin, Va. Pauline Hailstock of Hampton, VA, Jannia Jones of Richmond, and Nannie Jones of New York; one brother, Lawerence Perkins of New York; five brothers-in-law, Rev. Browlee Hailstock, Rev. George Jones, Shakespear Bland, James Bland, and Presley Bland; two sisters-in-law, Alease Cousins and Ruth Megginson along with many other relatives and friends.
