Obituary of Queen S. Brown

The Obituary and Reflections Of A Life Well Lived Mrs. Queen "Queenie" Elizabeth Scruggs Brown Queenie was born April 5, 1923, first borne child to the late Susie Smith Scruggs and Horace Jefferson Scruggs, Sr., in Fluvanna County, Va. She went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2012. She and Smith Eugene Brown (deceased) were married October 27, 1947. This union was blessed with one dutiful and caring daughter, Regina Ruth. She became a member of Thessalonia Baptist Church at the age of thirteen (13) during Homecoming and revival, August, 1936. Thus, she began her Christian journey. She served in many capacities and positions in the church - choir, usher, missionaries, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and church clerk for 23 years. She was also President of the Missionary and Education Convention, Women's Division of Slate River Association and Vice President of Area F Division of Baptist General Convention of Virginia. She was educated in the public schools of Fluvanna County, Virginia and attended BOK Vocational School where she was taught Arc Welding to work in the Philadelphia Navy yard during World War II. She graduated from the Jackson P. Burley and the University of Virginia Medical Center, School of Practical Nursing. During the 36 years of her nursing career, she served in various areas of the health care field: UVA Medical Center Charlottesville, Southside Community Hospital Farmville, and as a Fluvanna County School nurse. She retired from the UVA Dept. of Neurology, May 1, 1985. After retiring, she did part-time nursing at CVCHC Buckingham, Virginia; Heritage Hall Dillwyn, Virginia and as a Private Duty Nurse. She is preceded in death by her mother; father; sister, Gracie Edna Scruggs Gault; and brother, Reverend Horace Jefferson Scruggs, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Regina Ruth; sisters-in-law: Alice Scruggs (Charlottesville, Va.), Olivia Brown (Wash, DC), Mary Brown (Orange, NJ), Juanita Thomas (Orange, NJ) and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Queen's daughter, Regina Ruth, remains to celebrate the life, ministry, and legacy of her mother.
