Obituary of Edward Brooks

Edward J. Brooks was one of five sons born to Nathaniel James and Nellie Brooks on September 14, 1937 in Cumberland, Virginia. He lived and worked in the Columbia area all his life. His previous employment included farming, sawmill, and fork lift operator. In 1965, he was joined in wedlock to Ida Mae Booker and from this union four daughters were born. Speedy as he was affectionately called enjoyed gardening, farming, and fellowshipping with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Curtis Brooks. On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 he departed this life at UVA Medical Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. He leaves to cherish his memories; wife, Ida Mae Brooks; four daughters, Brenda Johnson (Lawrence), Barbara Bland, Mary Henderson (Earl), and Bertha Brooks; five grandchildren, Maurice, Tina, Angela, Earl Jr., and Marquise; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas Brooks, Carl Brooks, and Rufus Brooks; two brothers-in-law, George Booker and Leroy Booker (Mary); one aunt, Jenny Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends.
