Clyde Williams, Jr., 72 passed away December 10, 2011 at Reid Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born February 23, 1939 in Calhoun County, South Carolina to Clyde Williams Sr. and Lizzie Richardson -Williams.
He graduated from high school in New York City in 1956 and completed his undergraduate studies at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went on to receive a Juris Doctorate from the Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C. in 1965. In 1966, he accepted a position with Attorney George Sawyer and moved to Richmond, Indiana and later established the Law firm of Williams, Delaney and Simkins. He was actively involved in his church (Bethel A.M.E.), his fraternity (Alpha Phi Alpha) and was a member of the Esquire Club for over 40 years. He served on the Protection Advocacy State Board for the physically challenged and previously served as the president of the local Wayne County Bar Association. He was also committed to helping others through his volunteer work with the Bethel Foundation distributing food and clothing to the less fortunate.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Williams Sr. and sister Sally Singleton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Juanita Thomas Williams of Richmond; daughters, Patrice (Emerson) Mack of Richmond and Karen (Kenneth) Wyatt of Atlanta, mother Mrs. Lizzie Williams of Columbia, SC; grandchildren Morgan Mack and Kennedy Mack of Richmond; brothers Joe (Mabel) Williams of Columbia, SC and Raymond Williams of New York, NY; sisters, Hattie (Sylvester) Burley, Loretta Williams, Ivey Williams, all of Columbia, SC and Jacqueline (John) Wheelings of Bronx, NY; brothers-in-law, Jeta (Loretha) Thomas and Wendell (Hazel) Thomas, both of Cumberland, Virginia and a host of nieces and nephews.
