Obituary of Mary Ruth Hatcher

Mary R. Hatcher was born August 19,1930 to the late Simon J. Bower and Era T. Bower in Blackstone, Va . She was reared with four brothers and three sisters all whom preceded her in death. Three of Mary Ruth Grandchildren preceded her in death, Michael, Darnell and Shawn. One son, Floyd Hatcher, Jr. and her husband, Floyd Hatcher, Sr. At an early age she accepted Christ, was baptized and joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church. From there she moved to Richmond and joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. In 1947 she was joined in wedlock to Mr. Floyd Hatcher where they lived in Richmond until 1948. That's when they moved to Cumberland and they became members of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She served as an usher for more than 40 years. In 1975 she became a deaconess until death. Mrs. Hatcher departed this life on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 with two of her devoted grandchildren by her bedside. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her devoted daughter, Gladys Hatcher (John); her son, Don Hatcher (Kathleen); four grandchildren, Bryant and Lynae Hatcher; two devoted grandchildren, Wayne Hatcher (Diane) and Y'vette Winston (Marcus); eleven-great grandchildren, Kayla, lan, Jovon, Jada, Bryante, Brandon, Bryan Jr., Michael, Amani, Kierra and Briana; two brothers-in-law, Welford Hatcher and Harry Lewis; four sisters-in-law, Louise Williams, Hilda Bower, Ann Brown and one devoted, Ruth Hatcher. A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends along with several devoted friends; Deacon Lewis and Rev. Anne Bell Anderson, Bruce and Janice Tinsley, and Lonnie and Rev. Jessie Johnson.
