Obituary of Marinda Vernade Anderson
Please share a memory of Marinda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marinda Vernade Booker Anderson was born in Cumberland County to the late John and Jennie Booker on April 26, 1926. She was reared in the home
with three siblings - Louise, Winfred and Coolidge, all of whom preceded her in death.
In 1944, Vernade was joined in wedlock to William Edward Anderson, who preceded her in death in 1992. To this union, seven children were born.
She received her education in the Cumberland County Training Schools. She was employed by the Cumberland County Postal Service as a custodial worker and also worked for the Cumberland Forestry Services. For many years, Vernade served as a teacher's aide to the Cumberland Adult Basic Education Program. She was faithful in rendering her services to many of her friends in the community by trans-porting them to various places to attend to their needs. Vernade was a loving and caring person, oftentimes putting her needs aside to assist others.
At an early age, she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and joined the Petersville Baptist Church, where her membership remained until her passing. She served faithfully in a number of church ministries until her health began to fail - Deaconess, Sunday School, Senior Choir, Missionary Circle, Rescue Club and served as the church's secretary. She was also a member of the Friendly Echoes, a local singing group in the community. Two of her favorite hymns were "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "There's A Bright Side Somewhere".
For the past six years, Vernade resided at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn, Virginia, where she fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith. On Monday, September 5, 2011, when her race was won, the Lord called her from labor to reward.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: four sons, William, Jr., Curtis, Raymond (Shirley) and Beryl Anderson; three daughters, Bernice Mayo, Carrie Roberson (Bobby) and Cheryl Bolden; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lewis Anderson, Sr. (Annie);
three sisters-in-law, Florine Booker, Louise Nelson, and Virginia James; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a close friend, Mary Alice Royall who so affectionately called her "Lemon".
