Obituary of Christine Etta Green
Please share a memory of Christine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved one, Christine Etta Green, departed this life with the same quietness and dignity that she lived, on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the Woodlands Retirement Home. She was born in Norfolk, VA to Christopher and Mildred Harris Simmons on September 21, 1943. She was a native of New Rochelle, NY and moved to Cumberland, Virginia in 1980.
Having known Christian influences in her family, at an early age she became a member of a Catholic church and attended school there in New Rochelle, N.Y. Later she joined and became a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Cumberland, VA were she attended until her health began to fail.
She was married in 1960 to Leonard Green, and to this union four children were born. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be remembered for her sweet, humble and cheerful spirit. Her departure leaves an aching void in our lives, but we are left with so many precious memories that will give direction to our lives as we face the days ahead.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Jamie Brooks of Richmond, VA; three sons, Leonard Green III of Keysville, VA, Christopher Green of Meherrin, VA, Jason Green of Bronx, N.Y.; twenty-three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jennifer Belton of New Rochelle, NY, Patricia Simmons of Blackstone, VA; three brothers, Christopher Simmons of Richmond, VA, Gregory Simmons of Greenville, S.C., Wayne Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Velinda Simmons and Linda Simmons; one son-in-law, Elnathan Brooks; three daughters-in-law, Tanya Davis-Green, Shelia Green, and Ivy DeJesus; a close and dear friend, Linda; her Aunt Helen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
