Obituary of Mary Booker Marshall

Mary Booker Marshall a daughter of the late Elizabeth Broadnax Johnson and Armstead Johnson of Richmond, VA was born January 17, 1926 in Richmond, VA.
She was converted baptized and joined church at an early age. Prior to an extended illness, she was an active member of Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dillwyn, VA. She was also a member of the United Order Of Tents.
Upon graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1943, she attended Virginia Union University. She completed her studies in 1951 having prepared for a career as a public educator.
As a Biology and English teacher, she shared a breadth of knowledge with many young people who attended Central High School located in Goochland, VA for many years. She later joined the Cumberland County School System for sixteen years and ended her career there as an educator in 1988.
Upon the decline of mother's health, she resided with her youngest daughter (Jane) for twelve years and a nursing home for three years. Regardless of where she lived she always considered Cumberland as her home.
On Sunday, July 3, 2011 she departed this life at Beth Sholom Home in Richmond, VA.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Rogers Marshall; two loving daughters, Veronica Lindsay (William) and Jane Crawley (Charles); six grandchildren, Joseph Quirley, Angela Hall, Larry Jones, Brandon Crawley, Charles Taylor and Danielle Crawley; nine great-grandchildren; four step siblings, Sarah Ann Monroe, Byrdie Harris, John Broadnax (Catherine) and Reuben Broadnax, Jr. (Gladys); a nephew James Fuller, Sr. and a host of family and friends.
